BREAST CANCER RATES DROP DRAMATICALLY 10/06/2010
Women kick the PremPro habit and live to tell the tale.
In November 2006, research was released by cancer centers around the U.S. showing that breast cancer rates have dropped dramatically since 2002. Most doctors and researchers agree that the drop was created when millions of women suddenly stopped using hormone replacement therapy (HRT) after the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) study group announced, in the summer of 2002, that HRT users had an increased risk of breast cancer, stroke and heart disease. Estimates are that as many as 50 percent of women using HRT stopped taking it within six months after the WHI results came out. How large was the drop in breast cancer? It depends on who's reporting the statistics and how they're interpreting the numbers. Most of the data came from the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) cancer registry. It's pretty hard to get goose bumps reading a scientific review article, but as I was reading "Pregnancy, progesterone and progestins in relation to breast cancer risk," by a group of Italians led by Carlo Campagnoli, my hair stood on end. Here, in one eloquently worded, organized and argued paper was the same basic argument that Dr. Lee, Dr. Zava and myself made our 2002 book, What Your Doctor May Not Tell You about Breast Cancer about why progesterone is protective against breast cancer and progestins cause it. However, since the article was written four years after our book, it cited even more good research to prove the point.
AN EXCELLENT NEW STUDY ON PROGESTERONE CREAM 10/05/2010
The Hopkins Health Watch - Issue 6
A well-designed new study of women using progesterone cream has added greatly to the mounting evidence that natural hormones work as advertised. Nearly every day we receive e-mails from women who ask what to tell their doctor when he or she demands studies proving that natural hormones are safe and effective. Granted, using natural hormones as recommended by Dr. Lee mimics closely what the body would do naturally, and granted there are hundreds of physicians happily using natural hormones safely and effectively, but it’s always good to have studies to point to. Study says HRT increases stroke risk 10/05/2010
NOTTINGHAM, England, Jan 06, 2005 (United Press International via COMTEX) Britain's University of Nottingham has found hormone replacement therapy is associated with an increased risk of stroke, especially ischaemic stroke. The results, published on British Medical Journal Online, support previous trials that have suggested a link between HRT and stroke. HRT includes treatments of estrogen or estrogen and progestins for women to relieve symptoms of menopause. The researchers reviewed evidence from 28 completed trials involving 39,769 individuals. HRT was associated with an overall 29 percent increase in the risk of stroke, especially ischaemic stroke, which is caused by an insufficient blood supply to the brain. The severity of stroke also increased with HRT. The authors said it remains unclear why HRT should increase ischaemic stroke and its severity when some previous studies have suggested it might have a protective effect. However, they said, given their findings, HRT cannot be recommended for the primary or secondary prevention of stroke. Keep in mind that these results are NOT inclusive of human-identical hormone replacement therapy. HRT RISKS EXPOSED 10/05/2010
USA JAMA Reports - Study Gives HRT The Thumbs Down. July 2002
Major studies are weighing in giving HRT the thumbs down. The consensus amongst the more informed and enlightened of researchers and clinicians is that the only real benefit of HRT is for short term relief of hot flashes ( which is what it was originally approved for). There is little doubt that the widespread trend to use HRT for a range of therapeutic benefits ie heart disease, prevention of fractures, Alzheimer's Disease etc have all but now faded in to the mists (myths) of junk science. Millions of women have unwittingly participated in this massive experiment. Once again the rush for profits without substantial, proven research has jeopardized the health and, no doubt, the lives of women around the world. Hormone replacement therapy study halted 10/05/2010
Increased risk of breast cancer a factor, government says
July 9, 2002 Posted: 3:07 PM EDT (1907 GMT) WASHINGTON (CNN) -- In a move that may affect millions of women, U.S. government scientists Tuesday stopped a major study of hormone replacement therapy on the risks and benefits of combined estrogen and progestin in healthy menopausal women, citing an increased risk of invasive breast cancer. Researchers from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health also found increases in coronary heart disease, stroke and pulmonary embolism. by Martha Rosenberg
http://www.opednews.com Since federal researchers halted the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) hormone replacement therapy (HRT) study in 2002, three years early because the drugs were so dangerous, the sequence of events has played out almost like a joke. Doctor: I have some bad news. The HRT pills you've been taking cause cancer, stroke, blood clots and heart disease. Patient: What's the good news, Doctor? Doctor: I'm dating the cute receptionist out there! Hormone Replacement Therapy Harms Hearing 10/05/2010
Women who take the most common form of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) experience a hearing loss of 10 to 30 percent more than those who do not.
A study of 124 women showed that age-related hearing loss is accelerated for those whose HRT includes progestin, a synthetic form of progesterone. Women who took progestin had the hearing loss usual for women up to a decade older. The study compared the hearing of three groups of women aged 60 to 86. 30 had taken a form of HRT that included only estrogen; 32 had taken both estrogen and progestin; and 62 had never been on HRT. Each of the women was given a variety of hearing tests. In all the tests, women whose HRT included progestin (the most common form) had worse hearing. H.R.T. Another unbelievable report. 10/05/2010
Dear Reader,
You may have heard the news last week that another (yes, ANOTHER!) major hormone replacement therapy (HRT) study was shut down early to protect the health of subjects participating in the study. Or maybe you didn't hear about it. These studies are shutting down with such frequency lately that they barely rate a mention in most news reports. If it weren't so serious, it would pretty comical. But what received even less attention was a recent report in the British Medical Journal that revealed a shocking turn in the HRT saga that will not make anyone laugh. Scream with anger? That would be far more appropriate. BREAST CANCER RATES DROP DRAMATICALLY 10/05/2010
