Bisphosphonates are now the most widely marketed and prescribed patented, FDA-approved anti-osteoporosis drugs. Bisphosphonates mimic, to some extent, the effects of estrogen on bone in that they work by inhibiting bone resorption [the process by which old bone is removed to make room for new bone]. However, like estrogen, these drugs have no ability to build new bone.
Currently FDA-approved bisphosphonates, including Fosamax (alendronate), Actonel (risedronate), Didronel (etidronate), Boniva (ibandronate), and Reclast (Zometa) (zoledronate), are designed to strengthen bone by inhibiting normal osteoclastic bone resorbing activity, which slows the loss of bone mineral density (BMD), allowing the trabecular architecture to stabilize. Notice that this has nothing to do with stabilizing the balance between estrogen and progesterone, restoring calcium levels, or any other natural process.

During pregnancy the progesterone levels reach heights never experienced before, in fact they rise up to 400mg per day. This is because the placenta takes over the production of progesterone from the Corpus Luteum at about 4-8 weeks. Progesterone is the hormone that is responsible for maintaining healthy pregnancies and preventing miscarriages. You would usually not need to supplement with progesterone after about 10 weeks as the natural production of progesterone is high.

The solutions are straightforward when you understand the problem. If you know a man over the age of 50 who's not sleeping well, chances are good it's because he's got prostate problems that require visits to the bathroom a couple of times a night. It's estimated that benign prostate disease affects over 40 percent of American men by age 50 and over 70 percent by age 60. The most common symptom is trouble with urination. Such men may have urinary frequency (hence getting up at night), their urine flow may be decreased in force or rate, they may have urinary urgency, and they may feel that they haven't emptied the bladder (a sign of urinary retention), especially after drinking coffee.

If you supplement with a natural progesterone cream, it dramatically improves your chances of falling pregnant and maintaining a healthy pregnancy.
If you suffer from PMS, this is an indication that your body does not produce enough progesterone during your monthly cycle, so if you are trying to fall pregnant it is really important for you NOT to stop the progesterone until a period starts which is the indication that you are not pregnant. If you suspect that you are pregnant DO NOT STOP the Naturone. A fertilised egg cannot survive and your body cannot sustain the new life without large quantities of progesterone.

Progesterone's role in the body is closely linked to that of estrogen, in that in many ways it opposes the action of estrogen. In fact, many receptors in the body can be occupied by either hormone. When progesterone is occupying an estrogen receptor, the action that estrogen would cause if it were there instead can be blocked. For every receptor that is occupied by progesterone, a molecule of estrogen is thus freed up to do its work elsewhere. In other words, putting progesterone into the system effectively raises the amount of estrogen available to do estrogen-only tasks. This is why there is often a noted increase in Oestreogen Dominance when first starting Progesterone Therapy.

HORMONE HERESY 10/06/2010

An Excerpt from Oestrogen’s Deadly Truth, Part 1 By Sherrill Sellman

Women are misinformed about their hormones, to the detriment of their health, while drug companies reap huge profits at their expense.

………………..Enter Natural Progesterone

For the past 15 years, Dr Lee has conducted independent research into a natural, plant derived form of progesterone. His nonpharmaceutically-funded research presents a much broader understanding of a woman’s hormonal options and offers a totally safe, effective alternative that is free of all side effects. He has found that this natural hormone – used in conjunction with a good diet and lifestyle changes – is capable of eliminating much of the suffering associated both with premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and menopause.

Women kick the PremPro habit and live to tell the tale.

In November 2006, research was released by cancer centers around the U.S. showing that breast cancer rates have dropped dramatically since 2002. Most doctors and researchers agree that the drop was created when millions of women suddenly stopped using hormone replacement therapy (HRT) after the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) study group announced, in the summer of 2002, that HRT users had an increased risk of breast cancer, stroke and heart disease. Estimates are that as many as 50 percent of women using HRT stopped taking it within six months after the WHI results came out.
How large was the drop in breast cancer? It depends on who's reporting the statistics and how they're interpreting the numbers. Most of the data came from the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) cancer registry.

It's pretty hard to get goose bumps reading a scientific review article, but as I was reading "Pregnancy, progesterone and progestins in relation to breast cancer risk," by a group of Italians led by Carlo Campagnoli, my hair stood on end. Here, in one eloquently worded, organized and argued paper was the same basic argument that Dr. Lee, Dr. Zava and myself made our 2002 book, What Your Doctor May Not Tell You about Breast Cancer about why progesterone is protective against breast cancer and progestins cause it. However, since the article was written four years after our book, it cited even more good research to prove the point.

HORMONES and RESEARCH: Progesterone and the Brain
Now even brain scientists agree that hormone imbalances are all in your head!
Brinton RD, Thompson RF et al, “Progesterone receptors: form and function in brain,” Front Neuroendocrinol 2008
May;29(2):313-39. Epub 2008 Feb 23.

Comments: Progesterone is the new darling of those who study brain chemistry. Research is coming out almost weekly showing how important progesterone is to brain function. Dr. Lee and I started reporting on progesterone and the brain a decade ago. Dr. Lee famously said that if anyone in his family had a brain injury, he would slather them with progesterone cream. You can imagine the derisive letters and phone calls he received from his colleagues for that statement!

WILD YAM CREAMS 10/05/2010

Please tell me the difference between Wild Yam cream and Natural Prgesterone cream.

Although bio-identical progesterone is derived from the Wild Yam or the Soya, it is a very different molecule to the original plant steroids, Diosgenin and Sapononin.  In a laboratory the plant steroids are altered into the identical human progesterone molecule (bio-identical).  This is then micronized and placed into body creams where it them becomes available to the human as it is easily absorbed through the skin.

For a while, it was thought that Wild Yam had a similar effect to progesterone in the body, however, it is now known that it certainly does not behave as the progesterone hormone.  It is a good adaptogen, and can help with some menopausal symptoms. Progesterone which is the “Mother” hormone to so many other steroids in the D4 steroid pathway has this wonderful ability to bring about full hormonal balance.
